Bondi Nidus explores the balance between openness and retreat - a home that feels calm and light-filled internally, while remaining deliberately restrained and private to the street.
Delivered through a close collaboration between architect, client and Hatch, this project centred on the careful integration of concrete, timber, steel and blackened screening elements, with each material considered and selected not only for aesthetics, but for how it would weather, soften and endure over time. Internal courtyards and light wells were used to draw northern light deep into the plan, creating constantly shifting moments of shadow, reflection and texture throughout the day.
While highly resolved architecturally, the home was just as equally grounded in the realities of family living - considering how we could balance complex detailing with warmth, flexibility and liveability.
This project reflects Hatch’s focus on coordination, craftsmanship and long-term performance - particularly in the execution of complex material junctions, concealed interfaces and highly refined detailing. The result is a residence that feels a the same time robust and yet quietly refined.
